How to import goods from Iran through the BP-250 Gabd-Remdan border

To import goods from Iran through BP-250 Gabd-Remdan you need a registered importer in Pakistan, a supplier in Iran who can export through Remdan customs, complete and matching shipping documents, and a customs clearing agent at Gabd to file the goods declaration and get the cargo released. Here is the usual sequence.

Step by step

  1. Check that the goods can be imported

    Confirm the goods are allowed under Pakistan's current import policy and the rules for trade with Iran, and whether they need a permit, certificate or lab test. This is common for food, plants, animal products and chemicals.

  2. Register as an importer

    The importer needs a National Tax Number (NTN) and registration on Pakistan Customs' electronic clearance system. If you are importing for the first time, your clearing agent can tell you what is needed.

  3. Agree the terms with your supplier

    Fix the price, quantity, packing, the delivery point (for example, delivered at Remdan or at Gabd) and who pays for transport to the border.

  4. Prepare the documents

    Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and any certificates the goods need. Names, quantities and weights must match on every document.

  5. Export clearance in Iran

    The supplier, or an Iran-side agent, clears the goods for export at Remdan customs.

  6. Goods declaration at Gabd

    The truck crosses to Gabd. Your clearing agent files the goods declaration; customs assesses duties and taxes and may examine the cargo.

  7. Pay duties and taxes

    Duties and taxes are paid as assessed by customs.

  8. Release and onward transport

    After release, the cargo goes by truck to Gwadar, Karachi or another destination, or into storage near the border.

Common causes of delay

  • An invoice and packing list that don't match (quantities, weights or descriptions)
  • A wrong or unclear HS code
  • Certificates for regulated goods not arranged in advance
  • Differences found at examination between the documents and the cargo
  • Originals not travelling with the truck when they are required
